Kentish Killer 2025

Post by Tom

For the past few years we have chosen Hell of the Ashdown as the early season sportive to choose to represent en masse. This year we chose to take on its sibling, the Kentish Killer… it did not disappoint.

Taking place through Kent’s hills it lives up to its billing as a Killer. A profile of 110km, 2,000m of climbing with many double digit pitches in the final hour it is an early season challenge not to be sniffed at. Starting & finishing on Brands Hatch was a lovely experience. The dreamy start of perfect surfaces with a few rollers was quickly slashed as we found ourselves on Kent’s country roads.

Race organisers informed of some ice on the roads due to overnight frost so we started a little later & were particularly cautious on descents. After a cold start the sun shone bright, the sky showed true blue & it was glorious conditions. I’m sure many regretted layering up too much for the start.

With 20+ Waldy riders taking part in the event it was an excellent showcase for the club. On a number of occasions I heard fellow riders saying ‘oh it’s Waldy Wheelers’. The club clearly has a reputation for great attendance at sportives as well as our RT’s enjoyment of having them as in-house races. The spoils here belonging to newest mountain goat, Henry Nelson. Not only was Henry the fastest of the club he was also (according to Strava) the fastest on the day with an average speed of 29.2 km/h. Of the Strava KK2025 KOM list Waldy occupied 5 of the top 10 spots.

A brutal but great day out. Well done to everyone who participated.
